How long will you wait to get that gym membership before you start your fitness journey?
The thought of entering a gym for the first time can be intimidating for a lot of fitness enthusiast and beginners. The exclusive terms, the operation of sophisticated machines and the display of expertise by regular gym users can be overwhelming for a starter.
Do you really need a gym membership to start your fitness journey?
A lot of people continue to procrastinate until they eventually convince themselves that fitness is not for them. The good news is, you don’t need to visit the gym to start your fitness journey. You can start from where you are right now.
Everybody has to start somewhere, and congratulations, you are well on your way. We’ll take you through the most basic and simple ways to start your journey, helping you see fitness with a new pair of eyes.
What You Need To Start Your Fitness Journey
Anything that requires you to keep your body (any part) in continuous regulated motion for a period of time can pass as an exercise. It doesn’t have to be strenuous to be a form of exercise. That being said, here are few things you need to start this journey.
Make Up Your Mind
The First place your journey starts from is your mind. You have to make that commitment to create time, and follow through with whatever timing you agree to.
A 30-45 minutes, 3 days a week workout plan, is not so bad for a starter.
You can break your 30-45 minutes into bits throughout the day. A fifteen minutes’ walk in the morning around your room, compound, backyard, street or estate. A fifteen minutes’ walk in the afternoon during work hours break. A fifteen minutes’ walk in the evening right before bed. This timing can serve as a form of commitment for starters. But first you need to make up your mind on starting your journey and sticking to a time.
Map Out an Area
A convenient area to carry out fitness routines has been one factor that has deterred most people from beginning their fitness journey at home.
Create a special area around you where you can carry out those daily exercises. It could be a corner in your house, a corner in your back yard, a walking route in your street or estate. Plan out a space that serves as your designated area, for every time you need to carry out your routine.
Get Proper Workout Kits and Home Equipment
To achieve your fitness goal from home, you need to invest in some basic kits and equipment that you can use for your workout routines. You need proper sport wears (shoes, shorts/tights, sport shirts, towel, water can etc.) to be comfortable enough to carry out certain moves. There are specific home machines that can serve for indoor aerobics, if you don’t like to go out of the house. You can buy a treadmill, stationary bike or elliptical machine. But if you’re on a low budget, get your skipping rope and do your routine walks for a start. Other basic home equipment you might need is the yoga mat, a resistance band and a pair of dumbbells. As you progress, you can slowly get more equipment, building up your home gym.

Consult With Your Doctor
Before you begin any form of exercise, especially if you’ve never done it before, you need to have a complete understanding of your medical history and health status. If you have chronic or unstable health condition, such as a heart disease or joint inflammation, you may want to check with your doctor before starting. But if you can’t get access to a doctor easily, ask yourself these three questions;
• Am I normally very inactive?
• Do I have signs of a heart, lung or joint diseases?• Is my intended routines high intensity like running, HIIT or Heavy lifting?
If you answered yes to any of these questions above, you may want to wait till you see a doctor.
Hire A Fitness Trainer
To properly create a clear path for your fitness journey, you need the experience of a fitness trainer to guide you and explain things better. The trainer educates you from their wealth of experience and expertise, on the best routines and workout to engage in as a beginner.

Conclusion
The beginning of our fitness journey from home is not meant to limit us from the benefit of going to the gym and joining a community of fitness lovers. Rather, it is meant to serve as a way to boost our confidence, learn at our own pace and understand our body better before getting into the gym. As you progress, your home gym will serve as substitute for when you can’t hit a public gym.
But it’s totally fine to stick with your home gym, if you’re an introvert and enjoy the exclusivity. You might just need to equip it with more equipment for more efficiency.

I’ve tried working out in my home, but I get really bad muscle pain around my thigh after a day workout and put off working out for weeks, and it kind of makes working out a bit scary, what can I do to minimize the pain.
This article was really helpful
Muscle Pain after workout is quite normal, especially when you’re just starting or resuming after stopping for a while or moving from your level of weight load to a new level.
This is why you need a fitness coach to follow you through on your journey, guiding you every step of the way.
But for now, to help you reduce that after workout pain, make sure to do your stretches after workout to cool down your muscles, apply ice to ease muscle pain, heat to increase blood flow.
Stay tuned for more articles and we’ll do well to address your question properly.
